Cleveland Guardians starter Triston McKenzie could be sidelined for two months with a shoulder strain, an early blow to the defending AL Central champions. The team said Monday night an MRI in Goodyear, Arizona, revealed a strain of his right teres major muscle (back of the shoulder). McKenzie will be shut down from throwing for two weeks and then re-evaluated.The Guardians estimated it will be eight weeks before he’s back.McKenzie was scheduled to start Cleveland’s second game in Seattle on Saturday. Now, manager Terry Francona will be forced to juggle his rotation in the first week, hardly an ideal way to begin the season.McKenzie was removed from an exhibition start Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds after one inning when he felt tightness in his right triceps. He later described it as “a weird sensation.”The 25-year-old McKenzie went 11-11 with a 2.96 ERA in 31 games last season, helping the Guardians pull away in their division. The right-hander struck out 190 in 191...Unbeaten Gamecocks, Iowa’s Clark star in women’s Final Four

PHOENIX (AP) — Dan Snyder’s future in the NFL as owner of the Washington Commanders remains in standby mode while his peers gathered at a posh resort for the league’s annual meetings and waited for news on the potential sale of the team.A discussion on Snyder isn’t on the formal agenda this week, three people familiar with those details told The Associated Press on Monday. Still, Snyder was a hot topic of conversation despite his absence and even while quarterback Lamar Jackson’s trade request dominated headlines.“I think he’s put the team up for sale. I believe that something is close to happening,” New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft said. “I don’t know that for sure. We’ll wait and see what happens.”Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos recently joined groups led by Josh Harris and Tilman Fertitta to bid on purchasing the Commanders. Once Snyder accepts an offer, he must submit the bidder’s name to the NFL for approval.

DENVER (KDVR ) -- A snowstorm pushed through Colorado Monday morning, bringing big totals to parts of the northern Front Range and only an inch or two to most of Metro Denver. Windsor, Colorado saw some of the biggest totals with up to 11 inches of snow. Denver International Airport, the official measuring site for the city of Denver, saw 1.4 inches, while parts of the Palmer Divide saw less than an inch. But why was there such a big difference in totals for places that are only about 60 miles apart? The main answer is how wind direction plays a role during snowstorms here on the Front Range. Below is a snapshot of Satellite and Radar at about 7:42 a.m. Monday morning. It shows what meteorologists call a convergence line. This is when winds from two different directions collide, forcing the air upwards, and helping to develop heavier precipitation. The northern Front Range saw a convergence line along with upslope winds out of the east helping to boost totals. In Denver, winds out of...More relatives of Boulder shooting victims join lawsuit against gunmaker

DENVER (KDVR) – Five more Colorado families have joined a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the gun used in the King Soopers mass shooting in March 2021.“You know, they want justice for their family members. That’s why they joined this suit, and if this does anything to prevent this from happening to someone like them, or what happened today in Nashville, that’s all anyone can do,” Attorney Andrew Garza, lead attorney representing the families, told FOX31.The families Suzanne Fountain, Neven Stanisic, Denny Stong, Lynn Murray, Jody Waters and Kevin Mahoney are all now suing Sturm, Ruger & Co. The suit is expected to be filed in Superior Court in Stamford, Connecticut later this week.Lawyers for the families claim Sturm, Ruger & Co. marketed the weapon used in the shooting that killed 10 people at the Boulder supermarket in a way that promoted its ability to kill, and glorified lone gunmen.“This case, we believe the evidence will show they marketed what were effectively sho...More Borgen, less Sherlock: Europe cracks down on British TV

It’s a question worthy of a great TV detective: can streamers like Netflix still guarantee a certain proportion of European content if the goalposts are suddenly moved to exclude hits like Sherlock and Doctor Who?They may soon have to, as the European Commission is considering removing the U.K. from the list of countries recognized as providing “European” content, according to a policy paper seen by POLITICO. That would put broadcasters and streaming platforms in a tight spot, as the U.K. is among the biggest contributors to their European catalogs.“The need to re-define the concept of European works has been raised in the context of Brexit. It is arguable that, since the U.K. is no longer a member of the EU, works originating in the U.K. should no longer be considered as European,” said the paper. It also raised the idea of cutting Switzerland from the scope of European works.Under the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, television and streaming must include a share of R...Immanuel Quickley scores career-high 40 points in blowout victory over lowly Rockets

Three days rest and the lowly Houston Rockets did the trick. The Knicks got off the schneid by pummeling the Rockets with points in Monday’s 137-115 runaway victory, snapping their three-game losing streak behind Immanuel Quickley’s career evening.Quickley, playing in the place of the injured Jalen Brunson, finished with a personal-best 40 points, carrying the Knicks through a third-quarter run that forged the cakewalk. The Knicks stepped on the gas in the final period, and the Rockets — young, disorganized and generally awful — offered little resistance.“Winning definitely solves a lot of things,” Quickley said. The victory was important for two reasons: it reestablished positive vibes by killing the losing streak; and it gave the Knicks a 2 ½ game lead for fifth in the East ahead of the Nets and Heat.Miami is the next opponent at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, and there were concerns the Knicks might fall victim to a trap game against the...Latest news
