Denzil Pierre runs wild, powers Xaverian past Everett, 32-21

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:40:36 GMT

WESTWOOD — Xaverian may have major college football recruits at quarterback and wide receiver, but as long as coach Al Fornaro is leading the Hawks, the thought of them abandoning the run for the pass is silly talk.On Friday night, behind senior back Denzil Pierre, Xaverian ran to its heart’s content in a 32-21 season-opening victory over Everett.Pierre rumbled for 204 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, while Michigan State-bound quarterback Henry Hasselbeck rushed for three scores. It was uneven at times, but Fornaro will take the victory over a quality opponent and move on.“Very good,’ Fornaro said of Pierre’s play, which also included a two-point rush. “And we had the other guy, Mike O’Connor (54 yards on eight carries) play a little bit. The ability to run the ball does a lot of good things. It keeps it out of their hands. I’m not Woody (Hayes) out of Ohio State, saying three things can happen when you throw the ball, and two of them ar...

And that’s why we love them, they’re always supposed to be there for us. But family can be tough as well, and sometimes family is our struggle.finestkind was a fine film about family, with a great lead performance from Toby Wallace. SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea invited visiting Chinese delegates and Russian artists to a paramilitary parade featuring rocket launchers pulled by trucks and tractors, state media said Saturday, in leader Kim Jong Un’s latest effort to display his ties with Moscow and Beijing in the face of deepening confrontations with Washington. The midnight parade in the capital, Pyongyang, which was to celebrate North Korea’s 75th founding anniversary, came amid expectations that Kim will travel to Russia soon for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin that could focus on North Korean arm sales to refill reserves drained by the Kremlin’s war on Ukraine. While China has sent a delegation led by Vice Premier Liu Guozhong to the North Korea’s anniversary celebrations, Russia sent a military song and dance group.South Korean media speculated that the lack of Russian government officials at the festivities in Pyongyang could be related to preparations for a summit between Ki...

RABAT, Morocco (AP) — A rare, powerful earthquake struck Morocco late Friday night, killing hundreds of people and damaging buildings from the historic city of Marrakech to villages in the Atlas Mountains. Men, women and children stayed out in the streets, fearing aftershocks. Morocco’s Interior Ministry said early Saturday that at least 296 people had died in the provinces near the quake. Additionally, 153 injured people were sent to hospitals for treatment. The ministry wrote that most damage occurred outside of cities and towns. The head of the town of Talat N’Yaaqoub, Abderrahim Ait Daoud, told Moroccan news site 2M that several homes in towns in the Al Haouz region had partly or totally collapsed, and electricity and roads were cut off in some places. He said authorities are working to clear roads in the province to allow passage for ambulances and aid to populations affected, but said large distances between mountain villages mean it will take time to learn the extent of the dam...

India hopes for progress on global agenda as G20 leaders meet despite rifts over the war in Ukraine

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:40:36 GMT

NEW DELHI (AP) — Leaders of many of the world’s biggest economies prepared to huddle in the Indian capital for the Group of Twenty summit Saturday, though growing global rifts and the absence of key players meant that reaching consensus on the thorniest issues could prove elusive. At least a fifth of G20 heads were not in New Delhi. The leaders of Russia and China opted not to come, ensuring no tough face-to-face conversations with their American and European counterparts over multiple disputes, most acutely the war in Ukraine. Spain’s president couldn’t make it due to COVID-19, and Mexico’s president decided to miss it, too. Host India hoped the proceedings would not be overshadowed by the European war. It wanted to devote more attention to addressing the needs of the developing world — though it is impossible to decouple many issues, such as food and energy security, from the Ukraine conflict.Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made giving voice to the G...
