What a temp turnaround we've seen this month!

April 2023: a week ago temps were running more than 10-degrees warmer than the same period a year ago, and we’ve lost that edge. April 2023, given the chill of recent days—including the just completed weekend which came in more than 21-degrees cooler than last weekend—has now fallen 1-degrees behind a year ago. While still posting a 4.6-degree surplus and having recorded 14 of its opening 24 days above normal, the recent chill has taken its toll on the April 2023 Chicago temp average.Another chilly few days lie ahead. In fact, A FREEZE WATCH HAS ALREADY BEEN ISSUED for much of the Chicago area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. With temperatures in the mid 20s by morning within 4,000 ft. of the surface, showers predicted to ride into the area may well be mixed with some snowflakes over at least part of the metro area. It’s even possible some snow could temporarily stick on colder outdoor surfaces, particularly in northern counties, in the hours toward and just after daybreak Tuesday...Experimental water release to continue Lake Mead rise

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A large release of water from Lake Powell began Monday morning, sending water on a two-day journey through the Grand Canyon - where it will help restore sandbars and beaches while moving sediment downriver - to Nevada's Lake Mead.Monday's water release from the Glen Canyon Dam is known as a High Flow Experiment (HFE) by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The National Park Service (NPS) is working with Reclamation to ensure people using the Colorado River in the canyons know a surge of water is on the way.The last time Reclamation conducted an HFE was in November 2018 and has been doing them sporadically since 1996. Lake Powell, much like Lake Mead, has seen its water level rise and subside over the years, but the last time it was full was the summer of 1983. That summer, Reclamation released more than 100,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to lower the reservoir and help the downriver canyons. Lake Mead and Lake Powell are swelling. Here’s what that means for the wat...Family wants answers after 25-year-old mother found dead in Bell County

A federal ruling that made gun carry permits accessible to 18- to 20-year-olds in Minnesota is on hold for at least a month and potentially longer.U.S. District Judge Katherine Menendez sided Monday with state lawyers who sought to hold off on permits until a likely appeal is settled. The Department of Public Safety and some county sheriffs are fighting an earlier Menendez ruling that the age restriction on concealed carry permits is unconstitutional.Attorney General Keith Ellison, a DFLer, has said he would appeal the March ruling that determined the age limit to be a violation of the Second Amendment. Minnesota law has restricted the permits to adults 21 and older who met other qualification standards. In her latest order, the judge wrote that requiring sheriffs to issue permits to valid applicants could create problems if the underlying ruling is overturned on appeal.“If no stay is entered, various county sheriffs will likely begin issuing permits to individuals between 18 and 21 ...Albany woman celebrates 103rd birthday

SAN FRANCISCO — Starting their series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, the Giants had Wilmer Flores hitting sixth. With the long-awaited returns of Mitch Haniger and Austin Slater, consider it a newfound luxury for the Giants, whose lineup reached full strength Monday for the first time this season.“It’s a little thing,” manager Gabe Kapler said. But it’s a little thing the Giants have not had for the first three weeks of the regular season, as they navigated the absences of two of their top right-handed hitters. Haniger (oblique) and Slater (hamstring/elbow) were both activated and in the lineup Monday against St. Louis left-hander Jordan Montgomery for the first time this season after suffering injuries midway through spring training.Facing their ninth left-hander in their past 14 games, the outfielders’ return couldn’t have come soon enough. Even after breaking out for seven runs against Mets lefty David Peterson on Saturday, the Giant...Report: Warring generals in Sudan agree to 3-day ceasefire
